Rubber Track Chassis Kit suggestions for RC Mower

Hello everyone.

I’ve managed to build 2 remote control lawn mowers using a Sabertooth 2x32 motor controller, battle switches, powerchair motors, etc…

My issue is that the wheels on these motors are not all terrain and they occasionally spin and spin in the yard getting it no where. It even occasionally gets stuck because my yard has a few dips in it. Been trying to level it out some but we also have groundhog issues.

I figure my solution is going to be using some kind of tank tracks. A rubber tracks chassis kit. I just don’t know where to start on where to get them, which size to get, and how to make them work with my current powerchair motors.

Can anyone suggest what to get? I several RC lawn mowers where people have some that are huge for like 4 wheelers and such, but those mowers are like 10,000+. I can manage to build my own and save 1000’s if I can find the right chassis kit and additional parts I need to build one with rubber tracks.

Hi @kailef and welcome back to our forum!

I see RobotShop sells a couple of these track chassis kits but I think these are too small for your application:

Were you able to find a suitable product for your project?

Thank you.

Unfortunately, I am still searching. I’m finding all kinds of RC mowers with tracks on them, but just not sure where everyone is getting them.

I guess it’s from China:

A lot of these products (rubber tracks or complete lawn mowers) can be found on AliExpress.

However, here is something new posted on RobotShop:

For a size of track like that, although not cheap, you can search for companies that make tracks for ATVs. They may be willing to sell you the parts as opposed to the complete system. It’s unlikely they’ll want to create custom lengths for you, so you’ll need to design the robot around what they offer.
