RTF Quadcopter question

Hi I was wondering if this quad is completely set up with all features, tested and calibrated ready to fly right out of the box?

Hi siber6,

We have not tested the “Storm RC Hobby” systems but they claim to be ready to fly out of the box.
The flight controller is capable of all those features claimed by the manufacturer.

They are all assembled minus the landing gear.

All the best,

Hi Siber,

Welcome to the forms. The storm drone computer is a clone / knockoff of the DJI. How much experience do you have flying, this thing is dangerous for a beginner to use.

I did some research around different RC forums. I can assure you it is “ready to fly” with set up. If you think you can take this thing out of the box and start flying, you are endangering yourself.

You need to be fully aware of how to charge / handle LiPo batteries as a start. Also flying quadcopters is dangerous if you don’t understand the physics behind it. Furthermore this unit has GPS. If you don’t know how to use GPS, your drone can fly away. Also you cannot fly this thing indoors, bad GPS data can cause it fly randomly (like a flying lawn mower).

Finally, you will have to bind your Transmitter to your receiver, which from what I read can take 8+ hours for someone who has no experience doing this.

Finally the ESC speed controllers can be dangerous as well (these cheap ones can blow up if your motor catches something and overheats).

If you do have experience with quadcopters, this kit has everything you need to make it fly. It just won’t be out of the box.

I have been flying for years and the hazards you mention are appreciated. I just wanted to know if it is available and ready to fly with operational GPS, Altitude Hold, Return to home and IOC?
Are there any video reviews or flight footage on YouTube regarding this quadcopter?
Thank You!

Hmm,

I’m not sure. However RobotShop has amazing customer service. It is very similar to the Dji F450 which is an amazing quadcopter platform. I think the slight difference is some of the parts are inverted (Yeah I know …).

I know that RobotShop will go out of their way to make it right for you. In the description, you can see Altitude hold, return to home, and IOC are listed as features. If it turns the copter is a bad and those features hardly work, I’m sure RobotShop will work with you to fix it or help you with returns.

Their great service has given me the “buy with confidence” mindset.

Actually now that I look at this closer, if it is a RTF dji f450 at 422 Canadian, that is freaking great deal.

If any one of these features don’t work out of the box, you can claim false advertising
Features

Altitude hold
GPS hold system
GPS RTL system
Lower voltage warning & RTL features
BTU module & 915Mhz date-link (adjustable parameters)
Intelligent orientation control
Failsafe return to home

RobotShop is working on introducing so many new things that I highly doubt they had time to test these fully.

Yes they defiantly get back to you fast and really love this! For the size and all the features of this Quad Im about ready to invest for sure but I think it’s out of stock and haven’t seen anything about it, maybe it’s new? I do appreciate your reply!!

Yeah they are new I think. Along with all the other UAV platforms RobotShop has listed recently.

If you compare this to a fully loaded Dji F450, it is a great deal. My areas of concern is regarding if it can really deliver all those features at that price range.

Now that I look at it even closer, it is a Dji F450 frame. It has 2212 motors which are same as my DJI F550. Looks great overall. Two major areas of concern, are all those RTF features functional and I wonder how that 8 channel transmitter performs compared to the standards (Hitec, Spectrum, Fuj.)

If you end up picking one up, I’d be interested to hear / help you.

Also “return to home” is generic to me.

For me, I want return to home automatically on low voltage, on RF loss, and as a default fail safe. Also when I work on my bigger quads, I always try to put in a power kill.

To me, I don’t mind taking damage on my multicopter if the alternate is that it is about to run into someone or someone’s property.

Well My thoughts on the great features are that maybe they are just offering a fair deal? I have a FreeX SkyView ($399) with all of these features and I just love it and it is still flying like a champ after 8 months with only props and one ESC changed. I honestly believe that you can buy a decent quad for under $500 and this will be the price range that wins the masses for sure!!! PS I do appreciate your offer in helping me, Thanks again!!

I have a DJI version of this and they fly great. For $500, if you were to build your own DJI F450 with all of these features + TX/RX you would be looking to spend $800. I think that with something like this, it has a lot of integrated design, which we see the UAV market moving towards.

Plus it is Arduino based which is always a plus for me as I’ve done a ton of C programming. It also claims to have way pointing (some of my friends are obsessed about having this).

FYI, I just confirmed that it was very recently added to the range of products. If you end up getting one… please keep us updated.

I definitely will and thanks again!
