RPLIDAR A2 stop working (no answers via UART)

Hi,
about month before, we bought two lidars. After trying the example application, all is ok, frame grabber is working. After Christmas, I was starting working with one of these lidars again, but there appeared problem - it is not answering via UART. The frame grabber application says:

Cannot bind to the specific port.

I checked it and the COM port is selected correctly. Also I use osciloscope and measure, that the message to lidar is transmitted, but there is no answer. After connecting the Slamtec board to PC, the green LED is on for some seconds, after trying to connect to the lidar it is the same. The lidar is connected to the PC via USB hub with external 2A power source.
When I try the same with the second lidar we have, all is OK and working.
Do anyone have some tips what to do, before sending the lidar for reclamation?

Thanks

Bodie

Hi,

Please try the not working RPLidar with the adapter board of the other (working) RPLidar and see if that works. Either way, you most likely have a defective part (either the RPLidar A2 itself or the adapter board).

Therefore, we recommend that you open a support ticket with us here. In this message, please include the following:

]Your order or invoice number/:m]
]A link to this forum topic/:m]
]Details of the result of the test mentioned above/:m]
]A clear (readable) picture of the QR code under the not working RPLidar A2/:m]
]Any other details that may be relevant/:m]

Sincerely,

Hi,

I already try this yesterday, but I forgot to write it. The first do not work with both bridge boards, while the second one works fine with both boards.

Thanks for advice.

Hi,

I have exactly the same issue. Bought two RPLIDAR A2-M6 in May 2018, both was working when I tried them with the frame grabber app after unpacking. But after a few days one of the lidars started causing the “Cannot bind to the specific port” error message when trying to connect to it by the frame grabber app.
The adapter board is error-free, I tried it with the working lidar.

@Bodie, if this problem was resolved in your case, could you provide me some hints how to overcome this issue?

Thanks,
Domi

Hi,
I sent the not working lidar back to seller and received the new one.

Thank you!

I ran into a similar issue on working on windows 10. I went into my control panel, then devices folder, from there I selected the lidar driver I had installed it showed the USB connection was hooked to com6 port so I changed to com6 on the frame grabber pop up window when it initially appears. Fixed the problem, I was just on the wrong com port.
