RPLIDAR A2: how to replace broken usb adapter?

Dear RobotShop,

I recently purchased a RPLIDAR A2 for a drone project and have been extremely
satisfied with its performance and general quality so far.

In an unfortunate bad maneuver, I broke the micro usb plug on the RPLIDAR’s usb
adapter, this board is indeed very fragile.

Is there any way we could have it replaced or buy a new one separately ? If not,
do you know a way we could replace it, for instance using an arduino ?

The only thing I could find online was RoboPeak’s github repo
(github.com/robopeak/rplidar_arduino), but even if it allows reading the
RPLIDAR’s data, it doesn’t transmit it to the computer. Do you know a way to
implement the protocol, or anyone who already attempted it ?

Our drone is powered by a Raspberry Pi equipped with a PXFmini (it’s an Erle
Copter), the RPLIDAR is connected on a usb port and we are using it with ROS, so
we would need something that could replace the adapter in a totally transparent
manner.

Thank you in advance for your answer,

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Please open a support ticket here.

Make sure to place the following information in your message:

]Order or invoice number of the purchase of the RPLidar A2/:m]
]A link to this topic for context/:m]
]A picture of the QR code under your RPLidar (make sure it is legible)/:m]
]A picture of your broken adapter board/:m]
Sincerely,

Thank you very much, I’m taking care of it right away.

We hard glued a velcro strap at the bottom of our lidar, so I hope the QR codes and barcodes present on the rest of the packaging will do.

That should be fine.

If you happen to buy more RPLidar A2, we recommend that you take a picture of the QR code underneath first, just in case it is needed later.

Sincerely,
