Rov control system

Hi.
New to this page.
I have been working on a rov project.
Have made an rov with relays for thusters control and on/off lights and camera on the subsea side.
Topside i use the common down to switch the relays from control box. Been running power from two 100 amps car batteries connected in series.
Video is being run on its one twisted pair.

Now i would like to have “full” control over rov. Not just on/off on the thrusters.
Thrusters are modified bilgepumps.
Wish list:

Ps2 controlled rov, to control thrusters, lights, camera.
I have the housing,thrusters,lights, umbilical.
The umbilical i have is a proper rov thether.

Is there any one who could help me get contol of my rov?
Make me a list of what i need to make this happen?
Topside:Ps2 controller, coms board. Subsea: Coms board, motorcontrollers and relay boards for on/off lights and camera and maybe open close on a actuator for manipulator.

How long do you want the tether to be?
Can you include a drawing / image of the setup?

Made a quick drawing of waht i want.
Control could also go through laptop if thats a better solution.
Any suggestions what would be the the best solution?
Umbilical could also be shorter if there is an issue with coms.

Use a BB II or similar control board, connect PS2. drive long wire with serial SPI, use drivers and receivers. shift register on 'bot can control relays.

Thanx Alan.
Could list the items for me to buy ?

Can you wire up a TTL circuit? You’ll need something like a '195 shift register, and probably some small transistors to drive the relays. and some line driver/receivers, like a 244.

How much electronics do you know?

Alan KM6VV

I know some electronics, but i want motor controllers, so that i can adjust speed on thrusters, do not want to use relays on them.
I have never tried what you are suggesting before.
Is it possible to have coms board on top ,two wire coms down. Subsea: Coms board, motor controllers, and relay for power of lights and camera?

Not what I thought you were asking for.

Sure, run RS-485 comm, and put another uP inside the boat. Then do whatever you want.
