Hello,
How are these mounted on a motor shaft? What if the motor shaft is bigger / smaller than the hole in the magnet?
Also, these are good for both Speed and Direction, correct?
Thank you,

Hello @JKASingh,
Welcome to RobotShop community.
The encoders are compatible with all of the dual-shaft mini plastic gearmotors that have a rear shaft as indicated in this picture:
They are mounted by pressing the magnet to the shaft.
It wouldn’t work if the shaft is bigger or smaller than the hole in the magnet.
Yes, these are good for both speed and direction since they have 2 channels.
Let us know if you have any further questions.
Sincerely,
Thanks Ebram for your prompt reply!
Could you suggest a similar dual channel quadrature encoder, which is generic and can be mounted on a DIY hobby motor.
I am planning to use it on a 3 phase BLDC motor.
Also, could you suggest H-bridge driver for a BLDC motor. I see RobotShop offers BLDC motors, but have not found a driver yet.
Many thanks.
Hello @JKASingh,
Thank you for your reply.
The encoder choice is determined by the shaft size that you want to mount the encoder on it, because the magnet has to be will connected to the shaft so it doesn’t slip or miss some counts.
You can check our encoders and choose the one that fits your motor’s shaft from this link:

We have a lot of BLDC drivers, you can find them here:

You can use this one since it has a position control using hall-effect sensor:
