Roomba discovery battery issue

i just can’t give up on this Roomba. I need his help cleaning as I am old and physically challenged.
Now that I have played the sympathy line I will get on with the issue.
I have been replacing the battery in this Rooma yearly as they start out great and then get shorter and shorter runs until they won’t go at all.
I was told not to use the charging dock but to use the direct plug in. Thought it helped but same thing.
When that battery was replaced I was told I was leaving it on charge too long between runs and that was killing the battery.
None of the above batteries were purchased from you and advice was from the battery store.
I purchased another battery from you last month. Plugged it into charge not using dock and let it charge about 5 hrs and then ran it. It ran great for about 8-10 mins and then went red. Put it back on charge using the plug in and next morning nothing.
Help.
I can get soldering done as I used to build printed wiring boards for Lucent if tgat would keep me from changing the motherboard ( yes, been reading the forum).
What should I do?

Hi Marty,

It does sound like there may be an issue with your robot charging the battery. Would you happen to have an old battery still available that you can test to see if it does last for a few minutes after being charged by your robot? This would help determine if the issue is with the battery or the robot.

Have you verified the output voltage of your charger? It should be 22V and the green light on the charger should be solid.

The Roomba NI-MH batteries do not have any memory effect so it is OK to leave them on the home base or on the charger. But, it is recommended to use the robot every few days. If the robot will not be used for a long period of time, we suggest to fully charge the battery and then remove it from the robot and store it in a cool dry place. At that time, it would also be recommended not to leave the robot on the home base or connected to the charger.

From our experience a Roomba battery usually last 1.5-2 years with proper usage. It is also possible to follow the battery reset procedure to improve battery life: youtube.com/watch?v=s7Lfg0KZuTM

If the robots motherboard no longer charges, it is possible to replace parts but, it can be a difficult task and there is risk of damaging the motherboard.
