I am interested in purchasing the Roomba 580 and wondered if it will travel to a room that is on a slightly different level. My kitchen, dining room, and hallway are ceramic tile. The two bedrooms and living room are hardwood and are lower by less than 1/2 inch. My question then is will it be able to travel from room to room without any problem?
I have a roomba 530 since one year and it’s saving me a lot of time. Trust me, it’s a good buy. There are also nice advantages buying it on robotshop.
If you have a cat, a dog, birds, a girlfriend with long hairs, it works well. There a cheaper robot vacuum but this one is, in my opinion, the best. In my search, I found that roomba is one of the top gadgets of 2008. The company sold near 300 millions dollars of robots to the US army. They seem to do nice robots. The Roomba will have no problems going down to the lower level but, it may have problems going up to the higher level. It is possible that it will get stuck trying to go back up.
The clearance from the bottom of the robot (bumper) to the floor is slightly less than 2cm. Therefore, the robot will not think that this edge is a wall. It will try to climb up and may get caught.
If you are considering a robot vacuum, you may decide to start the Roombas cleaning cycle on the higher floor and have the robot go down to the lower level. Then again the robot may try to go back up.
You may also decide to use virtual walls in order to make the robot clean the first level and then the second level as two separate cleaning cycles.
Some customers do decide to test the robot in their environment and modify this environment to best fit the robot.
