Roomba 770 bumpers malfunctioning

Problem: When Roomba bumps into something with either left or right bumper it continues to keep bumping into it for about ten times. Then it stops for about ten seconds the back up and goes on it normal way until it again bumps into something and again starts the same routine. Sometime it will act normal when bumping into something that is, immediately change direction. The problem is intermittent. I replaced the cliff and bumper sensors to eliminate the voice error " Please move to new location and press clean. " I don’t know if doing this caused the bumping problem.

@ted, when it bumps for many times in a row does it seems like the robot wants to keep going or it will slightly back off and bump again? It would be a problem if the robot did not stop when bumping (wheels spinning on the floor). You can try this by putting an object in its path that will activate the bumper sensor but not enough heavy to stop the robot, if the robot pushes this obstacle around then there is a problem with the bumper sensors. When the robot is going in a straight line does it seem like it is curving or going straight ?

It will slightly back off and bump again about ten times then after a short stop it will start and change direction, I notice that sometimes it seems to work normal. If I place something light in it’s path it will slow down and push it, then it will speed up if I clear it’s path. The robot goes very slightly off from a straight line.

@ted, either the bumper sensors were not installed correctly which would cause this issue because they are not clicking all the way in. Or the motherboard is defective because it is no longer registering when the bumper sensor is activated. We would suggest that you open up the robot once more and verify that all is installed correctly. Let us know how it goes!
