Roomba 5XX - Deep charge works, normal does not

Hi there - I have a weird issue.

When I charge the roomba normally after about 30 minutes I get a blinking red light and it says it has an error 5. I’ve done this numerous times and the same outcome.

However, if I take the battery out and somehow force a deep charge, it charges for 16 hours then works just fine for at least 40 minutes of vacuum time.

I’ve cleaned the contacts and so based on this, it indicates that there is no problem with the battery itself. Could it be the charger? But why would it work fine on a deep charge and not on the normal charge?

@Cirrus123, If you’ve had the robot for more then 2 or 3 years, you may have to replace the battery, if you haven’t done it before.
It is also possible that the charging base is defective. However we will suggest the replacement battery first, since the robot doesn’t last long enough after a 16 hours of charging.
