I ordered my Roomba 580 last week and it arrived very quickly (within 4 days). Impressive. The Model number on the botton indicated it was a 570?? I am disappointed in the machine since. It has been in use for less that 3 hours and has been cleaned 4 times. Yes we have a dog but that is why we bought the unit. It isn’t beacuse the unit is full but beacuse it stops and wants it brushes cleaned. I removed everything that I saw, removed the brushes and front wheel etc. I placed it back on the floor, restarted it and within two minutes it stopped with a “clean brush” message. I did (cleaned and removed brushes)again and there was nothing to remove. Besides that my wife had swept the kitchen prior. We have new ceramic floors and it shouldn’t be a problem. I placed it back on the floor and not 2 minutes later it stopped again. Ergo this vent and a thought of returning the unit as undesireable. Maybe somebody has a solution as this is not a timesaving unit.
Hi Rick2U,
The manufacturer (iRobot) is no longer selling the Roomba 580 therefore, we are creating a Roomba 580 package. The Robot itself is exactly the same between the Roomba 570 and 580, only the accessories change.
The robot is asking you to clean the robots brushes since it feels overcurrent in its brush motor and stops in order not to cause any damage. Roombas are very reliable robots that pick up debris that you may not even see. It is possible that during its first few runs it will pick up more debris than during its normal house maintenance missions.
When you cleaned the robots brushes, did you remove and clean under the yellow brush bearings on the sides of the brushes? When you turn your robots brushes by hand, do they spin freely with little resistance?
If your problem persists, even with cleaned brushes and cleaned yellow brush bearings, you may want contact RobotShop, through the Support Center for a possible exchange under warranty.
Gardangel, your Roomba will not clean on your black carpet considering that it thinks that there is a cliff. There is not enough light reflection on Roombas cliff sensors when on black carpet.
Roomba users have placed either transparent tape or tin foil on the robots cliff sensors for their robot to be able to clean black carpets.
The problem with Ricks robot does not seem to be a problem with the sensors.
Maybe I have a hint or two. Try to clean the IR sensors in the front of the roomba (there are three of them). Also, I was suprised and not suprised when I saw my roomba wasn’t working on my black carpet.
It’s like if the IR Sensors was detecting dust on them. Also, it’s possible that only one of the brushes is satured from debris. Take a look on the front wheel : try removing it and clean the inside part.
If it’s not something like that, I think there may be a problem with your roomba.
Good luck,
Jeff
Thanks for this advice Julie. I’ll know what to do the next time I want my Roomba to clean my black carpet.
