Roomba 560 not going straight, wheel that spins all the time

Hello,

I’m new on this forum, this is my first message^^
I have a problem with my Roomba and I was wondering if anyone had ever had this problem. I couldn’t find a post where this problem was treated.
My roomba 560 dates from 2009 and has worked well until recently. Here are the symptoms:
At the first press on “clean”, it lights up and the left wheel turns for 3 to 4 seconds, then stops. If I press the left wheel to push it in, it starts turning again for 2 or 3 seconds. After that, everything’s fine.
At the second press, to start the washing, the wheel turns during the music until the brushes and the other wheel start working. Since this wheel turns faster than the other, the robot does not go straight. But when he encounters an obstacle, the left wheel does not stop, unlike the right wheel which does its job well. So the robot still has a tendency to force on obstacles, even if it sometimes manages to turn.

I thought it was the wheel module that was wrong, I changed the 2 wheels, but the problem is not solved. There is no “beep” either.
I tried to go into the test mode. Once inside, the wheel turns continuously. So I doubt it’s from the sensors.

Does anyone have any idea what the problem is?
Thank you so much for your help!

Hi,
From what we see, the issue could be caused by an IR bumper sensor.

It is normal that the Roomba starts a cycle by turning in a round, then it should go straight and cycle in a star shape.

Thanks for your answer!
I’m going to make a full diagnostic of the sensors and will return to say you the resultshttps://www.robotshop.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif

Hi, I’m coming back to you because I did all the rumba tests.
Note that the left wheel turns in almost all tests.
All sensors tests are good, they don’t have a problem.
This is not the case for wheel tests:
Test12 (left wheel test): the left wheel turns forward but with jerks, no overcurrent stall and encoder speed test not ok.
Test13(right wheel test): no problem, the test is good, but the left wheel still turns with jerks.
Test14(encoders wheels test): right wheel spin quickly(normal for the test) and encoder test ok. Left wheel don’t spin this time, so encoder test is not ok.

I really think it’s a left wheel driver problem on the motherboard. What do you think of that?
Where can I find a schematic of this circuit? Thank you very much!

Hi,

Thank you for your response.
Unfortunately, we do not own the schematic of any Roomba robot.

We suggest you try to replace the left wheel module first.
