My roomba 540 has the error 9 and spins in circles. I bought the circuit boards for the sensors. I have already cleaned out around the bumper with compressed air and took the roomba apart for inspection. I accidentally only ordered 1 sensor board. Just wondering if there is a way to test the circuit boards individually to see which one is not working.
One of the easiest ways to test which sensor is bad would be to put the robot in test mode. Note that if your robot is still under warranty, doing this will void it, so proceed at your own risk. You’ll be able to see the status of the bumper sensors; if one is stuck due to a failed sensor/part, you’ll be able to see if it is stuck on all the time. We do not have the instructions posted for test mode, but you should be able to find them with a quick search online.
Otherwise, you may be able to get some information on the sensors by using a digital camera on them while powered. Some cameras are sensitive to the IR light they emit and you may be able to see if one is not emitting enough light or is dim (please note that in the case that both sensors are defective, both might be dim, and you will not have a reference for what is ‘normal’ and what is ‘dim’).
Let us know how that goes, and if you have any questions.
