Roomba 500 series brushes do not turn any more. What could be the reason? I purchased and started using my unit in Jan 2008 and cleaned it every time I used it. I love it!
I have worked with iRobot Tech Service and followed all instructions on various tests. Conclusion was that I needed a replacement part. This was in April and the part is back ordered, indefinitely. Unfortunately I did not catch the name of the part. I could probably replace it faster if I knew what to order and did it myself.
Seems it could be the brush deck motor, the Spinning Side Brush Module, or perhaps one of the circuit boards. I would actually prefer to take it to a shop to get it fixed and not have to ship it off some where.
Any feedback would be welcome! Missing my Roomba service terribly.

Welcome to the RobotShop forum.
If the manufacturer has sent you two brush modules and they both don’t work, then likely the output from the motherboard is no good (of course, you may want to make sure that the connector on the underside of the brush module is making good contact and sliding into place - sometimes you are able to screw the four screws in holding the module in place but the connection is poor). Is your robot still under warranty? If so, we recommend you continue your discussion with them as they should send you a replacement main unit.
Otherwise you may purchase a new motherboard from us. The 550 is a model only sold by certain distributors; the 560 motherboard would be the appropriate replacement that we have in stock - it does come with the RF module on the motherboard as well. You can find it here.

But I have replaced the Brush Control Module 2 X at iRobot’s expense. . .
Does that mean that it must be the MCU or Motherboard? Or other likely causes?
I don’t see the 550 motherboard with RF in your parts section so is it available and with the updated software for self replacement?
What would be cost for this motherboard?

When you say that the brushes do not turn, do you mean the side brush or the two brushes situated under the robot?
To see if the brushes under the robot are spinning, you may want to run your robot without the dust bin. If these brushes are not spinning iRobot must have told you that you need a brush deck module.
If the side brush is not spinning you may need a side brush module.
Although, it is difficult to be certain that the module itself is the problem. There could always be a problem with the robots motherboard.
We suggest that you consider a Roomba repair considering that it is difficult to determine what the problem is with your robot without a proper diagnostic. 99.9% of Roomba’s are repairable and it costs much less than buying a new robot. We repair all Roomba’s which are part of the discovery series and 500 series.
We are the only place that we know of, that repair Roombas from the 500 series.

My Roomba 531 long black brushes don’t turn, I have a second roomba as well (needs battery). Will you ID the brush deck module ( and how to swap). I’ve dissassembled the Roomba hoping to dislodge an offending problem. No luck. It travels fine, just performs as if the dust catcher isn’t there.
