Hi guys,
I’ve got this roomba 4100 which is about 3 years old, and probably about 5 months ago the “power” button started acting up, I had to pressed many times or pressed harder that usual to make it works. Well, this past weekend it stopped working completely.
I took the robot apart and clean it up (compressed air) I even disassemble the control panel circuit and clean it as well. But after assembling it and waiting about 12 hours to get the green light again I couldn’t make it to turn on. My guess is that I’ve got a fried control panel, but here are my questions
-
Is there a way to test the control panel circuit and be certain that is really the culprit of my problems before I buy one?
-
I wasn’t expecting to wait that long for the battery to charge, more when it was fully charged when I started the cleaning process which took about 1 hour or so. Is this normal? could it be that the problem is the mother board?
I really appreciate your help on this matter
Thanks a lot Julie,
One last question, last night I unplugged the robot for less that 10 seconds from the charger, then plugged it back again. This morning it was still charging (after more than 8 hr). Do you think the problem could be also the motherboard?
Best Regards
That’s great info, I will test the battery and get back to you.
Thanks again
Julie,
Updating from my previous reply, here are my numbers
- Battery charger gives me 22v
- Battery just 4v
You’re right battery is not getting charge, should I just go ahead and get the motherboard? any other parts/tips here?
Thanks
Thanks, I’ve just ordered the part. I’ll post back if something goes wrong trying to install it
There is unfortunately no way to test the control panel apart from connecting it to a Roomba motherboard. The fact that you mention that it was hard to press for a few months before it stopped working, makes us believe that the problem does come from the control panel.
As for the battery, if it was removed from the robot while the robot was being cleaned and the Roomba’s charging system was reset, it is normal that it charged for this long. A normal refresh charge usually takes about 16 hours. The robot goes into refresh charge when it feels that the battery needs it depending on its charge level.
You are correct. It is definitely strange that the robot needed to charge for another 8 hours. Now that we have more information, it sounds like your motherboard is no longer charging the robots battery in this case. That may also be the reason why the robot no longer turns on. The battery may be too dead for the robot to be able to power on.
Before purchasing a replacement motherboard, we would suggest verifying the output voltage of Roomba’s charger to make sure you get 22V. This will rule out the robots charger.
Thanks for the update. Yes, we suggest to purchase a new motherboard in this case.
