Robots without brains

Hi i brought some reflective object sensors, and trying to make an electircal circuit but am having no luck in what to do. i seen this website http://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:cqvVSvJsjBoJ:www.optekinc.com/pdf/App%2520Bulletin%2520213-Opto%2520Assemblies.pdf+phototransistor+circuit&hl=en&gl=uk&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEEShv3VSBmZlWzrf1yMBeR4ND0I-dVFjLv8aanI_zsBzvJrDJq5KQ2roUgHJOPBGelhgjqKQ8ycF2WoFwTvnvEnwptPkX97_Yp6wW-59iT0lW7BkAn6P3LXsgQjhF8J7G1Oe4K8BO&sig=AHIEtbRkd3rLExp9NoKeXcmYu6jISSh-lQ

but still having no luck=( lol. i still dont get the difference between an active mode and a switch mode. any help will be great

thank you

dont understand what is

dont understand what is meant by low-high and high-low state. some1 explain that clearly =)

thank you

active and switch

To be honest, I just did a quick run-through of the schematics they show… It seems that one is a digital output while the other is an analog output.

make a choice

Do you want the sensor to give you a high voltage when it detects a bright surface, or when it detects a dark surface. Create one of the sugested circuits. Take the one that looks the easiest to build for you. Then use  Volt meter to check what you buit. No need for micro controller. Safer for everybody.
