Robotics in HS Gifted Program

Thank you in advance for any feedback.

I am taking over a stagnant high school gifted program.

I am 100 percent sure I am going to use robotics to engage my youngsters but I’m not sure where I’ll get the most bang for my buck. I am very comfortable with technology and am pretty good at teaching myself through trial and error. My administration has offered to send me to training, but with school starting that doesn’t help much right now.

I would appreciate any suggestions on robots or kits, or any other advice to get me going.

Thank you!

There are many possible options, but it seems like a kit which can be reconfigured is best. Consider VEX:
robotshop.com/en/vex-constru … t-kit.html
Ex: robotshop.com/en/vex-classro … tware.html
This can be reused year after year. Note that software is sold separately:
Ex: robotshop.com/en/vex-robotc- … re-cd.html
or robotshop.com/en/vex-easyc-v4-cortex-cd.html

If you can tell us a bit more about what you might be looking for as well as your budget and the student’s age ranges, we can provide some additional suggestions.

The kids are in grades 9-12 and I just got the word I have $2,500 to get things rolling. I’ve done some research since your initial response and Vex definitely seems the way to go.

The only thing missing from the VEX kits is the software - consider either RobotC (text based) or EasyC (graphical). If you are not sure if a kit contains all the parts you need, we’d be happy to clarify.

Is there any chance you could post the best number for me to call?

I want to explain to someone exactly what I have in mind and see if I should go with the kit.

Thanks!

We accept calls regarding many kits for a classroom or for a school. You can call the main line and indicate you are a teacher looking for support. I would be happy to take your call.
