Roboticists! I need your TWO CENTS!

I’m an educator and I need to purchase a humanoid robot that will inspire and delight elementary-aged students. I want to spend up to about $1,500 – and so far, these are the robots I’m looking at.

Robotis Bioloid Premium
Hovis Eco
RoboPhilo
Hovis Lite Humanoid
am I missing any?

I’m an advanced novice, so I need something RTW if possible. The robot needs to be big enough to show in a large room to a lot of kids! (Darwin mini is too small).
It needs to do FUN & VISUAL stuff. i.e. dance, pushups, kung fu…

I would really like ALL of your input/experiences before making a final decision/purchase.

Thank you!!

Hi,

If you only want to do fun visual stuff, then a good choice could be the Alpha 1s. It is not good for advanced programming but if you wish to record and play movement sequences, dance and play music (it has a speaker), then is is perfect and also a lot cheaper. It is easily controllable via android or iOs smartphone and tablets and you can download and share movement sequences online. This robot come pre-assembled ( frame is made of metal and riveted so it cannot be disassembled) which also makes it sturdier and less prone to loose small screws everywhere like the Bioloiddoes all the time. This is the robot we would recommend for demonstrations in elementary schools. And at that price range, you could buy two for less than a single Bioloid.

Here is the alpha 1s: robotshop.com/en/alpha-1s-humanoid-robot.html

I personally have young kids at home and they really love this robot.

Best regards,
