Robotic gym stretcher

Hi there. I want to build a specialized gym equipment I invented in my mind. It’s a very simple tool like a fishing rod, but to be used to pull (stretch) human arms or legs, like yoga stretching.

Therefore I’m looking for a high torque motor with a programmable controller that has a pulley system. Nothing too fancy, just for it to do the basic work.

My main focus is on the functions the controller can perform and the strength of the equipment because I will want it to be very versatile and strong.

The controls are:

  1. Forward , reverse (continuously and time should be programmable). Meaning that change in direction time (I.e. time of change from forward to reverse and vice versa should be controllable 1sec to 999 minutes - infinite.

  2. Time of rotation should be controllable. Meaning you can program it to rotate for 1 sec - 999 minutes - infinite per direction.

  3. Speed should be controllable. From as low as 10rpm per minute to as fast as 200 rpm.

  4. Torque should be able to lift up to 40kg without damaging anything.

  5. Mount is going to be on wall.

The required parts are:

1 electric motor

2 controller

3 pulley attached to motor

4 rope attached to pulley

5 flat mount with screw holes attached to motor for screwing onto wall

Thanks.

The attached picture is a strap that will hold the arms or legs, just for you to have a clear understanding.

I’m budgeting $100 for this including standard shipping

Hi @Mikemode

Unless you’re an engineer working with doctors or health specialists, please don’t build this. High torque motors interacting with the human body is very dangerous and can lead to injuries and even death.

Between 2000 and 2013 there, has been 144 deaths, 1391 injuries and 8061 counts of device malfunction in medical robots in the US. And those are professionally made robots.

Magmator I understand. It can malfunction or I can have an accident. Ok good one.

So let us consider a lower torque. I was only trying to protect the machine from damage due to insufficient power. Meaning there can be an equilibrium- moderate torque. It’s just a simple device.

Pull release, pull release, pull release.

Better still I can use a robot arm that will swing left right left right like a grandfathers clock to replace the motor for safety reasons. What do u think? Very low power. Maybe 5 kg max.

Sorry, I do not wish to be involved in your project. I am not an expert in human/machine interaction and I would feel bad if you injured yourself

Take care
