Robothon 2006 is 3 months away (www.robothon.org)
Here is your chance to show off your 3 kg sumo robots.
A Lynxmotion Viper robot kit has placed in the top 2 positions for three years now. The Viper Design recently won the Western Canadian games (ww.robotgames.net), and has down quite well at the PDXBot (www.pdxbot.org) event during the last couple years.
People mistakenly believe they need high powered motors and motor controllers to win. Its not true. I use the cheap Nsiang-Neng, $20 motors from Lynxmotion in all three of my sumos, and they have more than enough power to win. In fact, one of my robots beat one of the Japanese robots a couple years ago. As for motor controllers, I use plain old fashion relays.
I would be good to see a bunch of you at the Robothon showing off your robots.
If you can make a mini sumo, you can make a 3 kg sumo. The only difference is about 2500 grams in weight.
And if you need help, I can help you.
