Robot Rover deck?

I’m about to order the RobotShop Robot Rover for Arduino (Tank Kit) Product code : RB-13 and have a some questions. The complete kit has a picture of the Rover with a deck. Is a deck available? I can’t seem to find one on your web site.

Denis

Thanks for the suggestion, Coleman. So that’s the term. Standoffs. I was thinking of doing just what you suggested if you didn’t stock something like that, so now I know how to accomplish it.

And I now know what four of the holes are for.

It turns out Amazon.com sells a large variety of standoffs. They have male-female nylon standoffs so you can make any height you might want.

As far as the decks, do you have a cad file with the holes at the corners of the frame that you might share? Pololu offers a laser cutting service that I plan to use to cut the decks and whatever else I can dream up. I could, of course, measure them myself, but thought maybe they are already available.

Coleman,

I would appreciate the CAD file if it wouldn’t be to much trouble. It would save lots of time since I would have to produce a CAD file or something similar to send to the laser cutting people.

Hi stonechild,

Welcome to the RobotShop Forum. The second level shown in the image is an example and is not yet in production - it is up to the designer to determine the correct size and shape they need for their application. In order to make a second level, you would need the following:

  1. Rectangular plastic (or whichever shape you choose to make it, rectangular being the easiest).
  2. 4x standoffs (1.5" is ideal, as shown in the CAD image; although not listed on the RobotShop websites, these can be specially ordered from Lynxmotion RB-Lyn-00 #AHS-04)
  3. 8x steel socket head screws (almost any length will work)

There are six mounting holes around the rover (diameter is set for steel socket head screws) which can be used to support additional levels or electronics (PCBs). The rear mounting holes are slightly closer together that the front two (it is best to trace the holes directly from the frame in order ensure they line up). Note that for ease of assembly, you may want to add the socket head screws before inserting the motors.

Hi Stonechild,

The dimensions for the holes are: 70mm between the holes at the front; 57mm between holes at the back, and 133mm from the front holes to the back holes. All holes are 3.5mm without powder coating. If you still need a CAD model, we can send one.

Hope this helps,

Hi stonechild,

We will have the CAD files available early next week from the respective product pages (it will be indicated “CAD Files” under “useful links” section).

The RobotShop Rover 2nd level DXF and DWG files are now available to download. Making the deck can be as simple as printing the file on a standard printer (ensuring the scale is correct by lining up all four mounting holes) and then transferring that to cardboard or a sheet of 1/8" plastic.
