Robot laser distance travel measuring

Même sujet que mon post précédent mais cette fois en anglais afin de faire appel à toute la communauté . Merci de pas m’en tenir rigueur

Hi guys, i need advices / details about Robot distance travel measuring .I mean a technology close to pc mouse laser maybe a full package of this kind of equipment is already available ? Thanks in advance for your responses

Thanks a lot , i will see what can be done and let you know:)

Hi again Pasckal35,

Optical mice sensors can be used to measure distance traveled but some hacking is required. Here is a good article about this topic:

Optical mouse hack

Nice to meet you Pasckal35,

Don’t forget about this : optical mouse will not work under sunlight. Try it and you’ll see. I red the article. One thing is missing : it’s possible to ‘know’ where we are because we saw a place before. It’s the same for a human : if you know where you are, it’s because you’ve been here before. Visual recognition could be a way… an entire human trait with intelligence is that humans can modify the parameters in real time. It can be put on a robot ‘mind’ with a probability system but will not be as perfect as a human brain.

My project of constructing a robot ‘knowing where it is’ as two phases. The first phase : the robot explore my house at random and record all the coordinates of the accessible floor. Also, it takes a lot of pictures when he is at each coordinates. With the multi factors, it can ‘recognize’ where he is. So, if I put it anywhere on any room, it will try to recognize the room with the pictures it took. This way is not a perfect match about the coordinates but, with IR tags or RFID tags, it could simplify this ‘perfect matching’. So, when the battery run out, it ‘knows’ where to go for the recharge.

About the visual recognition, it does it in black, gray and white to reduce the space used by pictures and the comsumption of the CPU (more complex with colors). If you have some interest about it, you can phone me (je parle français aussi).

Good luck,

Jeff
