Robot Kits for Kids

I have a 12 year old that is infatuated with building things. Unfortunately, he has grown out of the Lego phase. I’m thinking of introducing him to the world of robots, but want to know if there are some easy to use beginner robot kits that he can really enjoy.

Suggestions, please?

You may be able to recycle those LEGO blocks by directing your attention to LEGO Mindstroms NXT V2.0. This robot construction kit explores many technologies used in advanced robots, is easy to use and best of all extremely fun! It is highly prized by educators from grade school to university and parents alike. The perfect kit for children of all age.

Hi anthony.julian,

Welcome to the RobotShop Forum. We have split up our selection of robot kits into “beginner” “intermediate” and “advanced”. The vast majority require assembly, and for his age group you should take a look at “intermediate” kits without soldering. Choose one that you think he might be interested in and that suits your budget. Usually robot construction kits require a significantly higher budget while development platforms are intended more for developers.

Hope this helps,

I agree with Jonathan. It’s really THE solution for your kid. But like all the LEGOs… it’s a bit expensive. And, a good thing about the mindstorm is that the companie continues to provide new sensors and objects on the market. It’s a proof that the legomindstorm is a success story and will not die so easily. Go for it.
