I’m looking for a robot kit, 3 or 4 axis, that uses 3 phase BLDC or PMSM type motors with encoder feedback for position. I don’t know if these exist as kits. If they don’t exist in that way, an alternative would be a kit or a set of parts that would allow me to use my own motors.
Does anyone have suggestions on either of these?

You’re likely imagining torque motors? Note that several Robotis smart servos use BLDC motors inside and offer position feedback, but from the outside, they look like servo motors. Trossen uses Robotis servos to make robot arm kits:
Three axes is a bit limiting (base, shoulder and elbow), so four is more “normal” to add a wrist rotate.
