Robot Elf on the Shelf

Good Morning,

I’m new to robotics and have conjured up a fun seasonal project. I have an idea to turn an Elf on the Shelf into a stationary robot with a small camera. Although I don’t want it to walk, I would like to be able to move the arms and turn the head to face incoming sound, with the camera capturing the moment! The Elf would either contain an Arduino type device or, due to it’s small size, have a remote device, connected via Bluetooth to the Elf. Ideally, I’d also like it to be controlled via an application

Although I’ll be able to figure out the programming for the camera and the robotics, the physical make up of the robot might be difficult. I’m thinking small pieces of Meccano to go in the arms linked to a central core, and a small rotary motor for the head.

Can anyone advise if they have done a similar project in converting a plush toy/doll into a Chucky like robot?

Any help or advice would be gratefully received

Hi James,

This “animatronic” project seems nice, you might find a lot of information with that keyword.
There are not “off the shelf” (funny…) product for that but most will use R/C servos and some entirely custom parts.
