Robot Competitions and other Events

Hi LMR,

Yesterday antonio.caciuc had the idea of compiling a database of robotics competitions. That's why I created this forum topic.

If you know any cool competitions or other events, please tell us about them here.

Don't forget to post the link to the official site, the date, a short description of it and some geographic information if it's possible.

Here is an example:

11TH PORTUGUESE ROBOTICS OPEN:

6th OF APRIL // SCIENTIFIC MEETING

7 - 10th OF APRIL // COMPETITIONS

http://robotica2011.ist.utl.pt/en/

"The Portuguese Robotics Open, which had its 1st edition in 2001, aims at promoting Science and Technology among students from the 1st grade to university studies, as well among the general public, through robot competitions. The Festival takes place every year in a different city, and includes also an international conference where national an international researchers present their latest work in the field of Robotics.

The event has had an enormous growth since the 1st edition, both in the number of teams, participants and visitors. The Portuguese Robotics Open is currently an initiative of Portuguese Society of Robotics."

Some of the competitions are:

It will take place in Lisbon, Portugal:

It would be nice to track any ongoing internal competitions also

I am probably going to enter the LMR Logo competition that JAX got started. I stumbled across the one on jumping the gap - it seems we have more than one ongoing but I only know that by stumbling across them.

Don’t forget the Challenges page!

Not all inclusive but they have quite a list.

Valley View Casino Center in beautiful San Diego California, Thursday through Saturday, March 10th - 12th, 2011 (Doors open at 8:00 AM).

The FIRST Robotics Competition is an exciting, multinational competition that teams professionals and young people together to solve an engineering design problem in an intense and competitive way. The program is a life-changing, career-molding experience and a lot of fun. Each year the competition reaches more than 43,000 students on over 1,500 teams in competitions held across the USA and in other parts of the world. The teams come from Brazil, Canada, Chile, Israel, Mexico, the Netherlands, the U.K., and every state in the U.S. The competitions are high-tech spectator sporting events, the result of lots of focused brainstorming, real-world teamwork, dedicated mentoring, project timelines, and deadlines.

The San Diego Regional FIRST Robotics Competition is open to the public and is free to all. Bring your parents, friends, teachers, principals, and people that work in the many fields of Science, Technology, and Engineering to enjoy this great event. Come on by to see all the action and cheer on our future technology leaders.

See the three-day agenda HERE.

I know about the list on

I know about the list on robots.net, but I was thinking of something more up to date and maybe more user friendly. Like search/sort by geographic area or participation criteria(open, student only, international/local), prize information, difficulty level etc…

Subtle correction to the location

My link to the Valley View Casino Center was a map to the Valley View Casino. The Casino Center is the old Sports Arena in San Diego proper. Only about 40 min in driving distance. No big deal

I’ll probably check out the competition on Saturday with my indentured servitude eating up my Thursday and Friday. If anyone is interested give me a holler, maybe we can meet up or whatever.
