I’m wondering if anyone knows if the RoBoard is compatible with 802.11n. Everything I’ve seen talks about b/g working but theres no mention of plugging in an “n” card. I’m after the range using a pair of 802.11n cards not necessarily the speed, but speed would be nice too!
Thanks for the reply! For clarification, I’m wanting to put an 802.11n card on the RoBoard in place of the standard b/g card you can get directly from RoBoard. I was thinking of something like the Ubiquiti SR71-15, ubnt.com/products/sr7115.php.
Thanks for the confirmation! I agree, it would be great if RobotShop would carry an “n” card.
I think Ubiquiti did not list the SR71-15 correctly on their main page. When I checked the data sheet it indicates it is compatible with a/g/n under the radio operation section and a/b/g/n under the data rate section. I have to get clarification from Ubiquiti to find out what the real deal is.
The real reason I was looking at this model though is because it operates on the less crowded 5GHz frequency instead of 2.4GHz. I was hoping by doing that I might be able to spend more time in the 40MHz band instead of being pushed down to the 20MHz as I expect would happen more frequently in the crowded 2.4GHz range.
Does that sound right or is my understanding of the theory all messed up?
As of this date, the manufacturer has not yet tested the RoBoard with an 802.11n mini PCI WLAN card but will be looking into it. For the moment, they cannot guarantee compatibility.
Currently the RoBoard is the only product we sell that can use a mini WiFi card. If we carry additional products that can use a mini WiFi card or if demand for an 802.11n card increases, we will certainly look into carrying it.
The Mini-PCI Wifi Card is surely not compatible with 802.11n, but you can use an external USB adapter, something like the Buffalo WLI-UC-GN which is pretty small.
But be aware that if you use an adpater with internal antenna, you may have shorter distance and slower transfer speed. Be best performance, use something like the Linksys WUSB300N.
Since Mini-PCI seems to be a standard, you shall be able to use the card from Ubiquiti with a RoBoard. By the way, Ubiquiti provides many interesting products! Wow!
The SR71-15 from Ubiquiti seems to be only compatible with 802.11a/n. Why not the SR71-12 which is 802.11b/g/n ?
Maybe RobotShop will propose the Mini-PCI 802.11n wireless card in the future.
