RIO SSC32 Problem

I’m trying to use the AL5D Robotic arm in the classrom for the first time
My Problem:
We have built the robots and installed the RIOS SSC-32 V1.06 software. I’m using USB to serial adapters. Initially the program appears to run fine when we try to step through the configuration procedure. There are no problems in the “All=1.5mS” and “Arm” screens. When we open the “SS-32” screen the computer freezes. It may not freeze immediately, but it always seems to freeze in the first minute or two.

At this point we have no way to run the robots until we resolve the problem. Can you help or point me in the right direction?

Might need a little bit more information here.

What USB to Serial adapters are you using? Can you post a picture of the wiring on a robot? Does the program freeze after a certain action is performed or does it seem to be at random? What operating system is the computer running? 64 bit or 32? Anything else you can think of might be helpful.

The RIOS program communicates with the SSC-32 continuously. Certain wiring errors can cause the SSC-32 to reset, thereby leaving the PC unable to receive the expected data. This can cause the PC to lock. So the image of the board is an important step in figuring out your problem.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. The USB to setial cable I ordered was USB2S-01. We are running Windows XP professional operating system (32bit). As far as I can tell the computer isn’t freezing at a particular time. It seems to be random (but I’m not 100% sure).
