Resistive Sensor Drift

Hi,

I am using a piezoresistive sensor to detect abdomen expansion during breathing. I have been using the Image Scientific stretch sensor but have noticed that the baseline and stretched resistances have increased (100-300 Ohms) over the last 5 months. Is this expected of all resistive sensors? Is the flexible stretch sensor cord (supplier code 519) by Adafruit expected to exhibit the same behavior? Are there other resistive sensors that you recommend that are more robust over their lifespan?

Thanks!

There are really not enough stretch sensors on the market to be able to offer any alternatives.
The stretch sensor from Adafruit is the same technology as the one from Images scientific.
Stretching the sensor constantly would likely have the same effect as stretching a rubber band.
You might consider a fixed cable connected to two force sensors rather than a stretch sensor.
If you need position, consider a few well-placed IR sensors.
