I’m totally new to this kind of thing and looking for ideas on how to do the below:
a plugin electric motor that can be programmed with an app and:
wind a cord (eg fishing line) back and forth for specified distance eg 1 metre in and 1 metre out (there will be a tension applied to the cord of between 30g and 250g)
repeat this upto 500,000 times on each occasion
the app will monitor the number of times the process has been repeated
the app will (ideally but probably not essential) stop the process if the tension is no longer there

To answer you, anything is possible.
However you will have to learn some things in order to make it happen.
Two main ways to do a back-and-forth movement.
- Do a 4 bar mechanism (car wiper) which make the motor itself only turn continuously in one direction.
- Use a Motor and Encoder to monitor the position and change rotation once the target is reached.
Once that’s out of the way, you can implement a way to monitor the amount of time this is done.
Note: Most “hobby” grade motor should not be used for a prolonged period of time.
