Repeatability of MR100K

Hi,

I want to build a robotic arm for use in microscopy, therefore precision and repeatability are important factors that I need to consider before I buy a robotic arm kit.

The AX-12A Robotic Arm from Crustcrawler offers a repeatability of 2.5mm:

  1. I would like to know the repeatability of M100RAK. I know that repeatability varies based on the load (on the end effector), so for a 500g load what would be the repeatability of MR100K?

  2. Also, can we replace the servos in the M100RAK to AX-12A, to get various feedback (speed, position, voltage etc.) ?

Thanks.

The M100RAK is a significantly larger arm than the AX-18 from Crustcrawler. Note too that the Crustcrawler arm uses much higher quality (and therefore more expensive) servo motors. The combination of a shorter arm with more precise servos gives it a lower accuracy as compared to the M100RAK. At full extension, the M100RAK can an accuracy (measured as opposed to theoretical) of about 1" (can probably be brought down to about 1/2") . The closer the arm is to the base, the higher the accuracy. The M100RAK however can still support ~500g at full extension.

Note that the arm can be reduced from its maximum length using the included tube sections. A shorter length would increase the accuracy, but we cannot tell you what exactly it would be.

No - the metal brackets are specifically designed for the Hitec 785HB servo. The M100RAK was designed to fill a void in the market for large but inexpensive robotic arms. An arm made up of appropriate Dynamixel servos can be made to be large, but would be far from inexpensive.
