Removable rackrail or other transmission system for a smooth wheel

Hi,

Here is my first message. For making 3d-photos, I want to build a tray controled by USB. My Idea is to buy a plastic plate for the television and to use a USB controler and a step by step motor, but I cannot find a solution for the transmission system between the motor and the tray. It takes a reliable level of precision for having a regular photo capture. So, I thought about finding a removable rackrail to convert the smooth wheel into a toothed one, but I didn’t find what I need.

I’m stucked. Do you have any solution?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

And sorry for the late answer. You’re completly right. However, I was thinking about a weight of 100 kg , so 5 time the ratio of the solution you proposed. But maybe, this is too much. What kind of controler USB must I use with this solution?

Thank you for all your answer

Hi la_poisse,

Welcome to the RobotShop Forum. To verify, you are looking to make a base that rotates in small increments over 360 degrees, that can support some weight? If I understod correctly, you may want to consider the Servocity GDP985A-BM Heavy Duty Gear Drive Pan System (8.6:1), as well as a large 10" circular servo arm. This would be special order from ServoCity. You can place caster wheels around the arm if it needs added support. This setup would give you relatively accurate and easy to control motion.

It is important to note that the servo motor cannot hold 100kg on its own. You would need a powerful geared servomotor and the table would need to be supported by bearings or more likely wheels. Your servo motor would need a secondary power supply (4.8 to 6V), and any USB servo controller would work. last, you would only use the signal and ground wires, ensuring that the ground wire is also connected to the servo’s power supply ground wire.
