can anyone help me understand the circuitry of the IRPD sensor like what is the type of modulation used, what is the output of the detector.

To better understand how it works think of what the receiver was designed to do. Receiving info from a TV style remote control. Therefore you must turn one of the LED’s on and off a few times (1mS on 1mS off is typical) to mimic what happens when a button on a remote is pressed. Then finally you leave the LED on and test the receivers output to see if it has detected the modulated light.
