Recommended parts?

Hi

The goal is to get a basic robot that can be controlled using a handheld controller such as the USB PS2 Robot Controller.

The platform would be the robotshop.com/en/4-wheels-sc … t-kit.html and I would like suggestion on what components to use?

I don’t require additional sensors for the moment, only a remotely controlled moving platform. I would like to have some control over speed and acceleration but I am not sure if a basic controller can deliver that.

Thanks in advance,

//O

You really only need a normal RC handheld controller and a DC motor controller which accepts RC input.

Thanks for the tip Coleman
How about batteries and chargers? Any suggestions?

The motors are rated at 12V, so it’s just a question of how long you want it to last (battery capacity). You can choose a 12V NiMh pack or an 11.1V LiPo. Ex:

The Sabertooth motor controller would power the receiver.

Hi Coleman,

My robot will need to withstand high payloads (8Kgs or 18 lbs) but I only need it to move at slow speeds: a top speed of 0.5 meter per second will probably do it.

Would I go for different motors / battery configurations?

Thanks

The battery capacity affects the weight and the duration of operation between charges (among other things). It won’t really affect the speed.
Not sure if the platform you selected can support 8Kg - it might have some issues turning on the spot.
