Re: On/Off Power Supply Switch for Raspberry Pi

Hello,

I’m definitely a super new n00b w/ electronics and am trying to put together a retro gaming system using a Raspberry pi3. I’m putting the pi3 inside a Sega Genesis USB Hub that has an on/off switch, I’ve picked up a 6 pin / 3x position switch and am curious if I can use this with the RB-Pis-10 on/off power supply board? There is ‘off’, ‘soft off’, and ‘on’ options via the board, so I was thinking I could take advantage of all 3 using this switch. Is this possible? If so, how?

Might be, this isn’t a smart thing to do… looking for guidance

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

A DPDT Switch won’t be a good fit to use all of the three switches of the On/Off Power Supply Switch for Raspberry Pi since you will need to close one switch at a time separately from the other switches.
All of the 3 switches don’t have a common point, each switch will function separately. Plus, using a slider switch in this case might not be a good idea since to select an OFF position from the 3 you will always have to pass by a position you don’t want.
In this case, a 3 positions DIP switch might work to let you select one switch configuration from the 3 switches. Maybe someone from the community with more experience with the On/Off Power Supply Switch for Raspberry Pi will provide us more insights about this.

Regards,

Thanks for the feedback, yeah, it turns out I really need a 2 position switch… I think this board will work for my project, so I’m going to pick one up, thanks again!
