Hi everyone - new to the forum. I want to build a rc lawnmower out of an old gas mower by adding battery powered motors (2) and control direction with the two motors at rear and using joysticks like tank levers. I have a metal fabrication shop so the mower and frame is easy for me. I have reasonably good electronics skills including some Arduino experience.
What I just don’t understand is how to interface a receiver to a HD controller for the wheelchair motors I want to source (I’m guessing brushed motors about 250 watts each). Is there a tutorial for this somewhere or can someone suggest a book or even the parts I would need to order for something like this? I don’t need to be cheap, so am flexible with respect to available controllers, etc. I heard someone say a “Sabertooth” is a good choice, but not sure what that means.
Also some suggestions for the transmitter brand would be appreciated. I’ve never owned a transmitter before.
My electronics knowledge is good, but dates back to Radio Shack days. I have a full test bench and soldering is second nature, but I’m just drawing a blank on how to interface that tiny little receiver to a big DC motor.
I hope I can pay it back by offering metal fabrication advice. I do sheet metal work, ironworker, MIG and TIG, plasma, lathe and mill, plus hydraulic bending.
Thanks - Peter
