RC Hack

I’m trying to hack a RC car for a school project. I need to control the motor to keep the car from crashing, So I need to add range sensors and
stop the car if an object is to close. I have the bot controller and need to know what kind of futaba(or other brand) controller I need. I was also wondering about which sabertooth product and how to tie them all together to control the car.

Is this supposed to be remote control with the ability to stop if directed into an obstacle? You have what kind of motor, such as current draw? You have a bot controller, assuming you mean Bot Board, what microcontroller are you using? What type of range sensor are you wanting to use. The answers to these questions will tell you what motor controller you need.

Yes it is this supposed to be remote control with the ability to stop if directed into an obstacle. I have not selected any components other than the Bot Board II and the BASIC Atom 28 pin. I was looking to use a futaba 4 channel radio but am open to suggestions as I haven’t purchased it yet. I have 2 ping range sensors from Parallax I was hoping to use to determine distance.

if all it has to do is stop when an object goes in front of it just have the radio controlled car like normal, then get a digital IR distance sensor and wire it up to a relay in series with the motor.

and wala, once an object appears it turns off the motor.

as for the RC car parts you’ll need your controller to match the receiver and servos/speed controllers you buy.
