Raspberry PI robot book?

Hey folks! Just signed up about 20 minutes ago. Former Factory Mainenance Mechanic here, so I have a pretty decent knowledge of automation. My question is, is any of it useful for this hobby?

I just got a book called Make a Raspberry Pi-Controlled Robot by Wolfram Donat, and I am wanting to build something similar, but a lot more robust. Basically more like a robot mule. Something that can tote some pretty heavy payloads with a long working time. I have some ideas about that, but I will go into them later. Anyway, I just wanted to say Hi more than anything. Have a good day!

Welcome Knifester

Love the sound of your project already!

Check out https://www.piborg.org/ if you need inspiration… They have a full scale Pi Borg, which is like what you are after I think, and also a ‘Diddy Borg’, a smaller version

You asked if your experience would be useful.

It is my understanding that robotics involves mechanical, electrical, and programming. I would imagine your experience should give you a solid foundation on at least two of those major points. If you don’t have programming experience, learning Python shouldn’t prove too difficult for you.

If you have questions, we will do our best to answer them. It always helps if you supply the proper info/background. In other words, don’t ask, “how do I make my motors move?” without including pertinent info like mcu, driver, your connections, language you are programming with, etc. If you don’t include that info, your first replies will likely be a bit snarky.
