RadRover v1.1

Well it's the tracks from a Broken Rad robot and a bunch of parts either in the mail, needing to be ordered or waiting to be added. I should have it all together by new year and hope to start on my second robot.

The moch version is made with foam board and plastic tubes. I plan to use coroplast and plexiglass along with a plastic dome I found in a plastics shop near Chinatown in NYC. The Ultrasonic HC-SR04 will be mounted to the dome and should give it some Character. Arms(one or two) will be mounted under the upper level. Servos are on the way!

The tracks get around my Apartment very well. No problems with rugs or door way thresh holds. I figured I needed a base that could make it around in a very old NYC apartment.

The first "test" Video was for JAX who wanted to see some RC Car Destruction...Hmm all I had around the house was my Lady's Ugh Boots :)

I have been working out the noise problem of the gears and motors..? I'm thinking in the end insulation and sealing up the compartment is the best way to lower the noise.

2/17/13 update

Been motivated as of late :D Although it is pretty simple like a SH robot with remote control and wireless web cam.

More to come.

I have track envy

Big tracks! Long, and girthy, er, wide too  Looks like a solid Frankenstein platform for a robot. Let’s have a video of that thing crushing RC cars or something!

you got it!

that was fun

Ah, I feel better

Short and sweet, to the point. Poor, poor boots…

Slick

Good design

Very neat. Are those the original RAD 2.0 motors, or did you replace them?

Yes.

The motors and gearing are in great shape so for now I’m keeping them. I have two modified servos that could fit no problem. It also has the built in high and low gear switch which I kinda like. I have an old net book that was collecting dust and am making a use for it, it will be mounted facing backward on the back deck, I have even powered the whole deal with USB power for fun and the base can take the weight well.
Working on arms that will mount under the top front deck with a rotating dome on top. The ultrasonic sensor will be mounted on the dome along with a webcam making use of the USB onboard.

Waiting on parts as usual.

Base source?

What are you using for the base on this monster? I just noticed the RAD 2.0 reference! OOPS! Looks good!  Post new pictures as they are available please!

usb servos

if i remember rightly you can power six standard hobby servos from one USB port without any trouble (collage final year projrct) so you should be fine with a couple basic arms. the only thing i would worry about is the battery life of the netbook

Just got one too…!

Kewl! Just snagged one from an ebay auction myself. Interested in seeing your progress.

Motor ratings…?

Do you know what the motor ratings are? How are you powering them?

Cool!

More RADbots. I too have a RADbot. Don’t know if there’s a difference between versions but mine is a 1.0 (had the complete bot so I looked up the version). Seems the same, hi/low gear switch and power switch underneath the back. Looks like we have a sub-group forming.

The first photo was kinda mind boggling untill i saw the last photo, lol.
