Radio control K9 Build

Hi all, I know the tag says there are no stupid questions but i appologise in advance as i am starting at the very very bottom rung of a very tall ladder.

As an avid Dr Who fan i am strting a build on a full Size K9 model (to sit next to the Dalek and tardis). Obviously having it sitting in a corner is boring so i need to radio control it.

Being a newbie i asked a around and was given sooooo much information it almost made things worse. I need to buy everything to make it go and perform a few tasks.

The things it needs to do is:- forward and left/right, wagging tail, rotating ears, nodding head and extending eye stalk.

Am i right in thinking that that makes it a 6 channel? if that is the case would i be wise to start with a basic helecopter / airoplane 2.4ghz set that comes with receiver and servos as i have seen these on ebay at a very good price (although some seem to only come with 5 servos).

Once i have the basics i am then going to experiment on a worktop so i have the layout all taken care of before i build the model around it.

The model will probably weigh around 15KG without the motors etc in so i will need reasonably powerful motors i expect and of course matching wheels. Speed wise, no need for fast speeds at all.

Hi, thank you so much for

Hi, thank you so much for your reply, its a tough one really, the basic controls i mentioned above will do the job, i dont want to overcomplicate things as i will get bogged down with it all. There is a radio control shop in town that i can throw myself at the mercy of but you know what its like, idiot walks into a shop and gets sold lots of stuff that he does not need. i guess i was kind of hoping to find a forum that had a few dealers in who would sell me good, sensible kit. I was unsure about going on a car site as a few people suggested helecopter 6 chanel systems so was unsure where to start.

sonic screwdriver controller?

considered a sonic screwdriver control?  accelerometer/gyroscope with a microcontroller and ir or rf transmitter.  so you make certain motions etc then k9 would respond? (reminds me of those harry potter wand remote controls for tv)

wow, thanks guys, i wake up

wow, thanks guys, i wake up and lots of brilliant ideas. Love the Sonic remote idea, funnily enough i was bought a Sonic TV remote for christmas thats still sitting in its box, now my head is spinning with ideas. Doing a bit of searching last night i found this, the chap has used lego to make the prode and ears work, very clever. http://www.instructables.com/id/Podpadstudios-K9-Dr-Who/

Well, you have inspired me,

Well, you have inspired me, I think it would be rude not to use the Sonic Remote now. i am wondering about a sort of halfbreed, RC for the drive and the sonic for all of the minor operations (ear, tail, nose, nodding head and maybe to switch on a digital photo frame mounted into the side). I am UK based unfortunately so would get hit with import charges from the US but will have a look over here for parts and start ordering. How does that idea sound?
