Questions regarding RC lawn mower

So I’m trying to determine what kind of mower would be best to buy. One I can build around and turned into a RC lawn mower.

I’ve already purchased a 2x32 Sabertooth motor controller. I also have a Spektrum DX6E transmitter and AR610 receiver. I have the necessary servo’s. I also have the powerchair motors and batteries.

What I’d really like is a push button start. I have a certain medical condition that has limited my physical capabilities, including having the strength to start a gas mower. I know some gas mowers have a push button start. My concern with cordless electric mowers is the batteries not staying charged enough to mow my yard and if it’s out in the middle of the yard and needs a battery change, it would be stuck. I’ve heard some of these cordless electric mowers have batteries that last 15-25 mins.

Then I thought maybe a corded electric mower, and instead of using an extension cord I would just cut the cord and wire it into some fused switch that will then connect to either the powerchair batteries, or a separate 24v battery of it’s own. I’m open to gas mowers with a push button start, but I’d prefer not to go that route if possible.

I know I can get a solid state relay and have it setup that way for a push button start.

Anyone have any suggestions? Which mower might be the best way to go and how would you wire it to turn on via a switch on the mower or on the DX6E transmitter?

Hi,

FYI, we offer some robot lawn mowers that you can consult in this link.
If you want to build your own RC Lawn Mower, these tutorials might be useful for you :

Hope this helps,

I appreciate the reply and information.

The remote mowers you guys have require perimeter wiring setups and they do it by themselves. That’s a great thing and all, but I much prefer to have the ability to control the mower and do the mowing myself remotely. When you have as many limitations as I do, you appreciate everything you can still do.

I did read up on those articles. The frame building and wiring to get the remote control part working is no problem. It’s just the decision of which mower to go with and the wiring to start the mower through the transmitter. I was thinking of leaning towards purchasing an electric start mower. Craftsman make a few that have an electric push button start. Those electric starts are wired and attached to the handle bars. I was hoping for a way to set it up so I can detach the bars and take the electric start push button and have it wired so I can start from my DX6E transmitter. Not entirely sure on the wiring though.

So I’m thinking just getting this Snapper gas mower that has an electric start to it.

After doing some more basic reading, I read something about a two channel switch control board allowing me to turn on and off the mower using my DX6E transmitter. I’m not too familiar with the wiring.

If anyone is able to help walk me through some wiring, it would be greatly appreciated.

So I am thinking of buying this Snapper mower. It’s a gas mower that has an electric start push button switch.

I was curious if this would work so that I could start it from the transmitter.

I would buy a Battleswitch like from the Dimension Engineering website. I don’t know if you guys sell them or not.

But if I buy a battleswitch, it has a servo already on it that I could connect it to the AR610 receiver. I’d also wire the electric start push button from the mower and the 24v battery to give it power and that would send the signal back to the transmitter to start and stop the mower using one of the buttons.

Would that work?

Hi,

Yes we do offer the BattleSwitch Radio Controlled Relay.
This might work, however you will need to verify how much current pass through the electric start switch on the Lawnmower and be sure that the BattleSwitch relay is rated for this amount of current.
The BattleSwitch relay is rated for 10Amps @ 28V.
Here is an example using the BattleSwitch relay.

The mower is 12 amps so I’m not sure the Battleswitch will work then. Is there any other relay switch that’s similar to the Battle switch that would work that you could suggest?

We offer this Pololu RC Switch w/ Relay which, unfortunately, is also rated at 10A maximum current.

Regards,

So I have my RC lawn mower built and it’s almost good to go. Already had it out mowing, but there’s one slight problem. The wheels that came with the powerchair motors, they’re not meant for outdoors. Does anyone have any recommendations on some all-terrain wheels that would work and if so, where to get them?

I thought about checking out lowes to see if they have any, but I’m not sure where else I could get some all-terrain tires that would fit a powerchair motor.

Did you try the mower in RC ? Is it working as you expected ? Could you post a picture of it ?
As for the wheels, you can take a look at our Wheels category. What is the diameter of the powerchair motors ?

Sure, I have no problem uploading a picture. Some people saw it the other day and local news station WPSD actually did a story on it because of my situation being disabled.

The powerchair motors I have belonged to a Golden Compass Sport gp605 powerchair. The tires that go on it are 3.00-4 (10"x3" 260x85).

For the outdoor tires, I actually found these and thought about going with this since they’re compatible to fit right on the same rims. monsterscooterparts.com/mobi … kenda.html

It’s not 100% complete, which actually brings me to another question.

I don’t know if you’ve ever seen the video or pictures of this one called “RoboPlow”. It’s a RC snow shovel that has 6 wheels. On top of it has a wireless camera of some sort that can rotate in all directions and is controlled remotely as well. I’m interested in the same setup. I want to have a wireless camera that I can move through my transmitter if possible, or at least through pc controls so I can mow the lawn directly from my computer desk. Any recommendations on wireless cameras that can handle this and how would you go about hooking that up?

Thanks for the picture. That looks nice. Great job !!
We currently don’t offer any wireless cameras.

I think this is the perfect platform to discuss regarding lawn mower. I am fed up by seeing my home backyard looking bushy with an overgrown lawn. I need to buy a zero turn mower for my lawn which is more consistent and easy to use.I read a post https://topreviewedten.com/best-commercial-zero-turn-mower/ where i found two best zero turn mower like Poulan Pro and Husqvarna. Please suggest me the best one out of these.

Have you ever tried reel mowers for your lawn because it cut long grasses also.

No i haven’t used reel mowers before.I am looking forward to buy a zero turn mower with an automatic transition for easy mowing options.

I would recommend you to buy a reel mower. It is easily affordable and have advance features.
