Questions about the Seeedstudio 433MHz RF Long Distance Transmitter / Receiver Pair

Good morning,

Here is some question I have about the “Seeedstudio 433MHz RF Long Distance Transmitter / Receiver Pair” (https://www.robotshop.com/en/seeedstudio-433mhz-rf-long-distance-transmitter-receiver.html) in which I am really interested.

In order to make a 4-channel remote control, I indeed plan to use one such kit with TX & RX devices.

However, I also need to implement a 4-channel telemetry in order to have the feedback on the remote control, that the controlled device is working (“on” command taken into account by the receiver), that there is no default, as well as 2 other informations.

My 1st idea is to use 1 TX (command) + 1RX (telemetry) in the remote control, and the appaired RX (command) and TX (telemetry) at the device to be controlled. I fear that there may be interference between the two signals :

  • is there any encoding / appairing between one RX and the corresponding TX ? How does it work ? Would someone with the same transmitter model be able to command my device if he’s in the 2km range ?

  • will the proximity between the two antennas in the remote control impact the range of the command / telemetry ?

  • is the power signal sent out to the antenna only when one of the bits of the transmitter is high or at any time ?

  • is the VT bit on the receiver device high only when at least one of the transmitter’s bits is high or is there a way to force the transmitter to emit the VT signal to be advised on the remote control as soon as there is a signal received from the transmitter ?

If there may be interferences between several transceivers / receivers at 433,92 MHz, does it make sense to use another frequency for the telemetry signal (for example 315MHz) ?

It is also indicated that the frequency of 433MHz may be changed : in which range can it be done ? Is it something that we can easily change (for example by changing a resistor or turning a potentiometer on the board) ?

Thank you very much for your answers

Hi,

  1. Yes, there are 8 bit encoding solder jumpers on the TX and RX boards for pairing as explained in the attached picture 1.

Therefore, yes, if someone with the same transmitter model and has the exact same encoding configuration soldered on his transmitter will be able to command your device.
  2. If the command/telemetry have different encoding, the proximity of the two antennas in the remote control Tx (command) and Rx (telemetry) shouldn’t in theory affect the range.
As for your last 3 questions, we will contact the manufacturer to confirm and provide you the correct information. We will post it here as soon as we get a reply.
