Question about Servo Basics

Good morning. I am a mechanical engineer who really like building cars. I have a basic understanding of servos from when I was a kid and used them in my R/C cars. I am currently building a 1959 Impala and would like to motorize the license plate bracket that hides the gas tank filler. I am wanting the servo rotate approximately 90-100 degrees each way to open/close the filler access. I am not a programmer and have some basic skills but would prefer to find a package that suites my needs. I am hoping to just use a simple servo and have the physical limitations of travel be the feedback to stop the servo rotation but am not sure if it is that simple (or inexpensive) or will the servo return to its “home” position if it encounters a physical stop?

I would attach a photo of the license plate/ gas filler if I could.

Thanks!

Hello @burrism !

Great to see you in the forum, that’s a great idea. I found some tutorials that could hep you achieve what you want:

Hope this could help you.

Good luck

RoboCS - thanks for the reply. I checked out the suggested sites and I will continue to read them for a better understanding of servo motors overall, but I found this doodad that appears to do the trick without programming.

Thanks again!

Hey @burrism ,
I looked into it, it seems pretty great. Happy you find a solution.
See you around :grinning:
