Hi, I’m new to electronics and makes puzzles for my own escape room.
I’m looking to make an RFID puzzle that uses 4 sensors to release a maglock.
I previously used arduinos uno and MFRC22 but found the read range unreliable.
I was wondering if you have any readers you would recommend to read through 3 to 5mm acrylic and also wondered what components I would need.
Many thanks
Euan
@Hairyeuan Welcome to the RobotShop Community.

Can’t seem to find any which provide any information about what can be placed between the reader and the tag - there are a near infinite number of combinations of materials and thicknesses, so it’s not easy for a manufacturer to give an idea of what will and will not work. Normally an RFID reader can read a tag through a thin piece of plastic (especially as protective cover outdoors), but the range really needs to be in the order of a few centimeters.
Phidget’s reader seems to be very reliable with a good range:
Another idea would be to change the technology to magnetic, if that’s possible?
