PWM outputs study for Tiva C Series TM4C123G Launchpad Evaluation Kit (EK-TM4C123GXL)

After some months form last course on Embedded Systems with Tiva C Lauchpad, I though I could use it with the discovered Code Composer Studio or maybe with the "Arduino fork" Energia IDE, and do some interesting stuff with this board and servos.

To do so, PWM control is needed. As Texas Instruments says in Tiva C Lauchpad datasheed, this board has 16 PWM outputs but, is it possible to use all of them independently?

After checking the diagram I was confused: some pins have two PWM outputs, but it was asking at TI forum and with a tip I could understand it.

Fruit of this study is this "PWM outputs study for Tiva C Series TM4C123G Launchpad Evaluation Kit (EK-TM4C123GXL)" diagram. I hope it helps to clarify the pinnout and PWM outputs, at least it did to me. Next: controlling as many servos as possible! Any comment is welcome! ;-)

P.S.: just to re-cap, here is the phisical pinmap for the Tiva C LauchPad board and possible connections:

Update:

If you want to use all PWM outputs, you have to desolder R9 and R10 in the board, as it’s explained also here):

They are there to keep compatibility with the MSP430, as it's stated in the Tiva C Lauchpad datasheed (page 10: J2 and J3 connectors tables, also schematics page 20. Tip: search for R9).

Thank you I will think about buying the board.

Dear: Franciscodr

Just to let you know I watched some tutorials on coding the Tiva C series and I am in love with the board. I will talk to my parents into buying it for me. Thank you.

Thank you for your comments, and…

Dear nschreiber,

Thank you for your nice comments. Which video about coding the Tiva C is the most interesting that you have see?

That board is very powerful for the little money it cost, but some functions are harder to code, plus maybe not all 16 PWMs are fully accesible. I still have to check them.

If you want to learn more about the board and coding in the deepest way, you should check the edX course I explain here. It looks like they will do it every year, so you can do it by your own now, or start experimenting and hope the next year (maybe) will use the same board. What will you do?

P.S.: in the meantime you can use the board with whichever programming environment it has as we chatted

I found these helpful. Enjoy!!! Thank you for your tutorials.

I am watching the series now. Next thing you know I might know more than you do despite my age. Enjoy!!!

PS: I enjoy your tutorials reading both of them now. Thank you.

Great! I’ll ask you then

He he, I’m sure you’ll learn very fast, so in return I’ll put you in my shortlist of people to ask about issues and to share new discoveries

I see you move forward about the Tiva C and as you may know already it’s an ARM based platform, so very used nowadays. You’ll gain many skills that are very useful.

By the way, did you check already the course on Embedded Systems, not my detailed post, but the course itself. Please tell me your thoughs.

I wouldn’t put me on the list so fast and I can’t take a course.

Dear: Franciscodr

You should know I wouldn’t put me on that list so fast. Especially by the fact I don’t own a board and I still need to do some serious begging to get my parents to buy me it. Also you should know I can’t take a course on embeded systems. As much as I would enjoy it it will have to wait untill summer when I am free of school. Thank you though. I will do some more reading.

Don’t worry, you have more chances…

As the material you need to study that board will be published, and the board it’s not that expensive, maybe you could have it sooner or later… and you finnaly will learn it if you want  Just relax and keep going.

Thank you
