I’m trying to find a cheap controller for a linear motor project. Motor only has to move a table 1 inch. Manufacturer want to sell me a $2,000 controller. I think it can be done with a simple controller. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

What is the force required and how would you want to control it?

Most of the linear actuators we offer start at 2" stroke.
Hi Coleman,
My name is Pat.
My need is to move a table about 1" with a force of about 20 Ft/Lbs of force. Right now I have a Aerotech 3 phase linear motor but have not had much success to get to run. I developed some software to act as a PWM but not much luck. Do you have any thing that might work for the aerotech or do you have a motor and controller? I’m trying to move the table at a rate of 1/2" every 2 sec.
Thanks
So a linear actuator which can move 1/4" per second and provide at least 20 lbs of force? Again, very few actuators have a stroke of 1" (it’s simply too short). Consider:

The controller would be standard DC. If you want position control, you’d need an actuator with built-in potentiometer, at which point you could use the LAC:

Don’t know much about Aerotech unfortunately.
