Ps2 version 3 controller and version 1 controller

Hello: I have a version 1 ps2 controller. with the red and green lights. I use it with a basic atom pro 40. Apparently it just failed for an unknown reason. The red light no longer flashes.
I disconnected the control wires and left only the 2 wire connector connected. I still only see the green light, no flashing red light.
If I buy a new version 3 controller what will that do to my program and timeing etc? I do not even understand what is meant by the level shifter. Do I need that, and how would I use it?
Do you still have any of the version 1 controllers left? It would be a lot simpler for me just to buy one of them.
Thank you

Hey Stampee

I have a PS2 V3 and PS2 V3 controller, not quite a version 1. From my experience the newest one PS2 V3 is not known to work well currently. I am working onc learn cut instructions for the PS2 V3 with the BotBoarduino. For the old basic atom pro 40, it may be best to stick with the version 1. Good luck on trying to get one from RobotShop, I’m sure they will help you if they have any in stock.

If they don’t and you upgrade to the latest control platform, I can help you out with any issues with PS2 V3 and BotBoarduino.

The level shifter is really only needed for V2 and V3 remotes.
The V1 remote has been discontinued for some time now, so we don’t have any replacements.
Unless there was a short circuit, it’s quite hard to burn a remote or receiver - perhaps one of the wires simply came loose, or you plugged it back into the wrong pin?
The functionality of all Lynxmotion PS2 versions remains the same, so there really is no advantage to changing versions.

Thank you both: I honestly do not know why the PS2 controller failed. I was running on wallpower (12V) to my robot. I was testing my motors and power seemed a little low, so I plugged in the 12V battery, while the electronics were powered up. At this time the red light stopped flashing on the ps2 controller and it has not worked since.
I just cant see how plugging in my 12V battery caused this?
I have literally run for days on wallpower during shows, and many times over the past 5 years I have run on battery and wallpower at the same time. In fact it was my method for recharging the battery at shows, yet still allow R2 to run his lights and sound for spectators.
I did not change any wires, or plug any wires in differently. I had no reason to change things. I was working on a totally separate problem.
I did take the screws off the back of the ps2 receiver, and saw no obvious broken wires or broken solder joints. it is getting power since the green light comes on. And as I read someplace on the forums.
If I just connect the 2 wire connector it still should flash its red light. The led has not burned out because the transmitter will not connect, so… it must be something inside the receiver that has gone bad I presume.
Well where does this leave me? I cannot get a version 1 controller. What version would you recommend that I purchase to make my programming changes as minimal as possible?
ALSO what is the ps2 kit you sell for $4.95? It looks just like a receiver to me, yet it says ps2 receiver not included. This confuses me. Could I just buy that item and use my ps2 transmitter I now have?
Thank you once again.

Can you provide an image or two of your setup?

If it’s really burnt, you would need a PS2 V3 system.

RB-Lyn-429: Lynxmotion PS2DIY-KT PS2 Controller Cable Kit is just a cable set.
