PS2 Controller Commands

does anyone know where to find codes that will accept the wireless PS2 controller in Atom-pro Ide for the Johnny 5 robot? We have had problems with the communication between the SSC-32 and the Bot Board II, so we just disconnected the SSC-32. Not to mention the Sabertooth works fine. If anyone knows, please tell us. this project is due in two weeks.

Here is a tutorial illustrating examples of Atom Pro PS2 communications for our 4WD rover with a pan and tilt and 3DOF arm. There is nothing special about Johnny 5. It’s basically a differentially steered rover with some servos on the top. What sort of problems were you having with the Atom Pro communicating with the SSC-32? It’s pretty straight forward and very reliable. I’m sure we could figure out the problem.

we wnt to the link that you posted and were unable to build ps2a4wd1.bas. can someone please give some advice? or code? the reason that we disconnected the ssc-32 is due to its lack of response with the bot board II attached. we could get movement prior to installing the bot board II. Once we installed the bot board II we had no communication with the robot. i know that there are a lot of smart people out there that can help us out. thanks

Our ability to help you is proportional to your ability to explain the problems you are having. It’s not likely that someone has “code” that will work for you. It’s going to be necessary for you to give us a lot of information.

First off why were you unable to build the code?

Were there any errors?

Which editor are you using?

Does the green LED come on?

Have you ever programmed an Atom Pro before? If not then please look at this.

Please tell me where in the tutorial you are having problems.

Please take a few minutes to fill us in on what’s going on.

the code was able to build. We got it programmed and it ran for 30 seconds and then power just cut off to it. Now when we try to build or program it, the computer can’t even find it anymore. We are using ATOM pro IDE 8.0.1.7 and the green light was solid and one of the ps2 reciever lightes was flashing and the other is solid, but now they are both solid. We just can’t get the computer to find it anymore. Any suggestions?

Can you post an image of the wiring?

Are you sure the battery just didn’t run down?

we are not running batteries right now. we have a external dc power supply that is powering the robot until we can get it all programmed. we can get communication in lynxterm right now. the motors move but the program cannot find the ssc card. when tryting to run in visual sequencer ver 1.16 it cannot find the firmware or the ssc card.

This isn’t making any sense. You are saying Lynxterm can be used to send commands to the SSC-32, but SEQ can’t find the SSC-32 card?

Both programs use the exact same serial code.

You are going to have to sit down and really give us some information. We are just spinning our wheels on this. The help I can give you is proportional to the amount of information I receive…

What sort of power supply are you using?
What is the voltage and current set to?
How is it connected?
Are the wires of sufficient gage to carry the required current?

Power supplies often can’t deliver the instantaneous current required for a large number of servos. If you are powering the VS and VL from the same supply, well it’s just asking for trouble.

Probably 90% of problems with SSC-32 connectivity on DIY projects are in power delivery system problems. Because you haven’t posted any images of your setup I’m left to just speculate. To help figure this out lets focus on one problem at a time.

Please please please be more descriptive and verbose in your replies. You seem to have a limit of 5-6 sentences, and you use “it” too often for me to really know what you are trying to say.
