PS2 adapter wire colors don't match

Hi

I just purchased the BotBoard II and the PS2 adapter cable, and went to connect them up.

Unfortunately the wire colors on the 4 headers don’t match any of the online docs I can find.

Not only that, but all the docs show a 4 pin, a 2 pin and two 1 pin headers. My cable has a 4 pin, a 3 pin and two 1 pins.

The two 1 pins are OK, but the 3 and 4 pins have at least half wrong colors.

Is there a connection diagram for my cable.

Blue,yellow,orange,brown
red,white,black
green
grey

There has been three production variances in colors for these cables. You are correct that the diagrams in our tutorials are not correct. They illustrate the previous two versions. Beth is working on a new diagram to properly illustrate all three versions.

All versions of this cable have the following number of connections. 4, 2, 1, 1. I have no idea what you mean by your cable has 4, 3, 1, 1.

The Bot Board manual does have the three versions listed in it, so you can use it while we fix the image that appears in the tutorials.

Sorry for the trouble!

Beth just finished fixing the diagram. Now it looks like this.

Great Thanks

The 4,3,1,1 issue gets put down to old age and poor vision. The two pin header actually has three wires going to it… There is a black AND a white wire going to one pin. I just automatically assumed it was a 3 pin header.

D’oh!

Hi!
I have a question in case of cable connections to my ps2 pad. I have pad from HAMA, and there are quite different colours of wires. Could You tell me, or help whit this?. I’m trying to use my pad to controle the robot and I still don’t now if my wires are conected to the board properly.
My colours are:

  1. black - probably GND,
  2. red - probably VCC (3-5V?),
  3. blue - probably CLK,
  4. white - probalby CMD (commands from uC to PAD),
  5. brown - probalby DATA (data from PAD to uC),
  6. yellow - probably ATTENTION,
  7. violet - probably ACK,
  8. grey - probably VCC to motors (7V).
And thath all. There is no for example green cable, and there is only 8 cables, not 9.

Regards.

If you are using a different cable setup, you cannot go based on color - you need to go based on the order of the connections.

Yes, I know that  but here is the problem - I don’t have the end of cable, where was the connector to PS2, so I do not know the real order of wires into the connector. Maybe if U could take a foto of pad inside, I will be able to see my wires inside my pad, and than I will have real order accordig to one of yours schema above and order of soldering cables to the PCB inside.
Is there possible to do that?

This is the connection to the BBuino via the level shifter. Does that help? The pinout is in white.
