I require your help regarding a problem I’m encountering.
I want to use a proximity measurer to measure distance less than 2m between people and set an alarm if this happens. I am making a social distancing wristband for my HNC project and wondered if any of of the kits or components on here could be adapted to do this. If the 2m rule is broken I wanted an alarm to sound. Thank you!
Hello @Kathryn2016 and welcome to the RobotShop community,
Are you planning on having everyone in the same place using the wristband so they can “detect” each other? Or should it work regardless of if other people are using it or not? If it has to work even when other people aren’t using a wristband then you could use any distance sensor (infrared or ultrasonic) that works in the 2m range, the problem with that approach is that other things (not people) could trigger the device, for example, a wall.
If you are planning on everyone in the same area using the wristband then you could us IR beacons (emitters and detectors) and alternate between transmitting and receiving so that they never get triggered by reflections of their own transmissions. Like this:
Or another option could be a beacon like this:
You will also need a microcontroller to read the data acquired by the transceiver, process it, and trigger an alarm when the 2m rule is broken and a speaker/buzzer like these:
